So many ideas .....
Here lies the dilemma faced by most party throwers.
"so many ideas, so
little time.."
It's a big concern.
The question of
themes and ideas always seem to create a
lot of mental anguish. What's the difference? A theme is an idea isn't it?
Well, yes and no. I look at it like this: a theme is made up of may ideas. Now
those same ideas can be used in different themes. A
Theme vs Idea discussion might help
clear this up if you are a bit confused.
Why is the distinction important??
Here's why...
What I have found in many years of planning events and gatherings is that people
suffer one of two BIG MISTAKES.
-
Over do the ideas. They get so
many in mind and actually get attached to them and insist they ALL get used in
the event. More equals a better time for all. More is more. Right? NO!!
OR...
-
Idea Block. They get so
overwhelmed by the whole party throwing thing and don't choose any ideas. The
danger here is a type of party paralysis that saps confidence and aids
procrastination. Less ideas is more, might be OK, but having no party idea can be
disastrous.

QUESTIONS
- What will make the birthday unique
and memorable?
- What ideas jump out as fitting for
the birthday person?
- What would you feel comfortable
organizing or doing?
|
Both mistakes are easily overcome.
As long as there is time to make adjustments then all is well. The following
considerations might be helpful when thinking up a party idea.

CONSIDERATIONS
- Choose a proven ideas.
- Think: before , during and after.
Apply your ideas with this in mind.
- Opt for ideas that have IMPACT,
over those that might cost a lot of time or money. Impact is what we're
after.
- Tailor your ideas with the b-day
person in mind first.
- Try and chose ideas that move,
involve and capture the attention of the party-goers.
- If the party idea is unproven -- i.e.
you have never done it before -- get some help or do a practice run.
- The more ideas and theme elements
you have the better your planning must be.
- Enjoy the thrill of planning and
organizing. If you're not enjoying it, this will show up in the party!

What makes it all work?
The reason why people walk away from a party and say:" that was a lot of
fun!" or "we had a ball" is usually NOT because of the ideas chosen or the
theme used. They are important but plenty of ad-lib or spontaneous parties
happen and get the same result. Some have no ideas at all and certainly no
theme to speak of.
No. It isn't the ideas, themes or money spent. It's something else in my
experience.
The parties or events that stand out do so
because they have a quality that makes time stand still.
People become so engrossed with who is there and what they are doing
together that they forget about themselves and truly enjoy being with others
and the spirit of the celebration.
It's weird I know, but think about it just a little bit. The parties that
work all have the same quality. No one wanted to leave and felt sad when
they had to go.
When you are considering ideas for a party,
choose them and make them flow naturally during the time. They are part of
the experience -- but not the whole show.

SUGGESTION
What ever party idea you
consider, select 5 or 6 and fit them into a theme if you like the
idea of having a theme. Ideas first then theme. That way you can recycle
your ideas later on for other themes. |
